John H. B. Doyle (1797-1868) - c.1828 Lithograph, The Mysterious Visit

A charming lithograph with hand colouring depicting George IV, seated on a sofa and almost in back view, shakes hands with Eldon (right) while the Duke of Cumberland, on the extreme right and in back view, seems to superintend the interview. At a little distance (left), Lyndhurst, in wig and gown, and Peel whisper together; the Chancellor asks: 'What can he want here so soon again?' Peel: 'I believe it's something about you.'

It has the publisher information in the lower left and has been printed on watermarked paper.

On watercolour wove.

The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration. There is also a prominent crease to the upper right corner.

22.3 x 28.4cm (8.8" x 11.2")
