A characterful genre scene after the Scottish artist William Kidd (1790-1863), who was known for his comic depictions of domestic life. He also illustrated works of various authors including Sir Walter Scott and Robert Burns. In this scene, a family gathers around to tend to a young boy, who has cut his finger. The composition is rich with detail, such as the peacock feather in the background, the toy boats the boy was making, and the shotgun hung over the stove. Signed and dated to the lower right. Well presented in an antique wooden frame with a gilt slip. On paper.

Overall the condition is good. Discolouration and light foxing to the paper. Faint scratches and abrasions to the page, most notably to the upper left. Marks and scuffs to the frame.
