Description

A soft ground etching depicting the Blea Tarn by the well listed artist John Fullwood. Signed and titled in pencil below the plate line. Laid to backing card. Signed. On wove.

Condition

Age toning around edges of print. Small areas of discolouration to the top left and right corners.

Artist Biography

Painter and etcher, born in Wolverhampton, he studied at the Birmingham School of Art and in Newlyn and in France. He exhibited at the RBA and RBSA and was elected a member of both in 1891. Fullwood is also recorded as an early member of the Birmingham Art Circle. He also showed at the DG, MAFA, NG, Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool, RI, RA and ROI on several occasions as well as in the provinces. Fullwood was both a member of the Royal Cambrian Academy and a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries and his work is in the collection of Wolverhampton Art Gallery, he was the brother of Albert Henry Fullwood and died in Richmond upon Thames, Surrey.
