John Fullwood 1854-1931. John Fullwood worked in the West Midlands during the last quarter of the 19th century. He not only had an address in Broad Street Birmingham, but also had one in Twickenham London. He was born in 1854 and studied at Paris and Birmingham. A Landscape painter, etcher and illustrator . Studied Paris and Birmingham, Shown Royal Academy 21 times, RBA 99 times. John Fullwood was a successful landscape painter, etcher and illustrator.. His paintings were displayed at the Royal Academy on 21 occasions and by the Royal Society of British Artists on 99 occasions. From about 1874 to 1900 he was based in Birmingham and lived in Broad Street. He displayed no less than 67 paintings at the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists exhibitions. Around 1900 John moved to Sussex and worked there for about 10 years. He also had a house at Twickenham and considered the display of his paintings in major London galleries as the most important part of his career. John Fullwood died at Twickenham on 9th September, 1931, at the age of 76. He was a member of the Royal Society of British Artists and one of the oldest members of the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists. As a professional artist he regarded the great London exhibitions as most important for his career. However, the Midlands was his main work place and between 1874 and 1900 he exhibited no fewer than 67 paintings at the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists exhibitions. By 1900 he had moved to Sussex where he continued working for about another 10 years John published in 1880 a set of etchings that were and originally bound as a volume called "Remnants of old Wolverhampton and its environs". Although some of its views show other towns and villages the bulk are in Wolverhampton.
