A picturesque Scottish lake featuring a castle on the hillside amongst the mountainous landscape. The castle is being overlooked by the figures on the sailing boats as well as two figures in the foreground both wearing Scottish kilts.
The work itself is presented in a linen slip with egg and dart trim which is within an ornate gilt effect frame with a gold bead course and floral elegant corners.
Signed and dated to the lower left.
On wove.The work itself appears to have some discolouration. There is a small 4cm scratch on the glass above the ships sail. The linen slip has discoloured over time and there are some frame losses to the upper right as well as general scuffs to the frame.

John Francis Salmon was a coastal painter who predominantly painted in watercolour. He lived at Gravesend and exhibited views of Tamworth and Norfolk at the Royal Academy, London in 1849 and 1853.
