This very fine pastel study by John Cundy takes you back in time to a joyous scene from the Victorian period. Crowds of formally dressed beach goers can be seen in the centre of the composition gathering round the sandy amphitheatre, in anticipation for the much loved Punch and Judy show. While in the background wooden jetties and sturdy groynes mark the coastline as far as the eye can see. The drawing is signed to the lower left-hand corner. Beautifully presented in a contemporary white stained frame and new card mount. Glazed. On brown paper.
