Tadcaster Yorkshire-born painter the son of a joiner and wheelwright. He studied at Leeds College of Art and is remembered for his paintings of a bygone era although he was painting in the mid-20th Century. Little is known about him yet he was prolific and his paintings depicting bucolic scenes appear at auction on a regular basis. In 1959 he and his wife Patricia sailed from Liverpool to Montreal on the SS Carinthia where they spent five months with John working in a local studio. He appears not to have exhibited outside his local county of Yorkshire and he died at his home in Tadcaster.
