Artist Biography

John C. Halfpenny (1853-1933) was a painter who resided in Liverpool, London, Bournemouth and Southampton. Halfpenny was one of the group of art students at Liverpool Collegiate who founded the Liver Sketching Club on 11 May 1872, and was on the first Committee. He then became President of the club in 1887. He exhibited at the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool and at the RA, RBA, RI, ROI and MAFA. The 1881 census shows that Halfpenny was living as a lodger in Wallasey and that his occupation was a General Merchant's Clerk.
