Artist Biography
Born in 1938, John developed an interest in painting as a young boy. On leaving school, he began an apprenticeship in Devonport dockyard, and began a career in engineering. This background now has a strong influence on his painting, and most of the artists who have influenced John have been seascape painters. He paints in an impressionistic style in oils, with bold, free brushstrokes – looking for a composition that has reflected light and shadow. He says it is usually this which grabs his attention in the first place and is a constant inspiration.
