A charming 19th century watercolour showing a group of fisherpeople clustered around an assortment of nets and baskets. The coastal town and sailing ships pictured in the background have been delicately painted with an extremely fine brush. Gum arabic has been used to give the composition depth and create rich sepia tones. Inscribed on the reverse in another hand. Well presented in a washline mount and simple gilt frame. On watercolour paper.
Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration. With foxing to the sky, mount burn and some scuffing to the edges of the frame. There are also small insects trapped within the frame visible to the lower left corner.
