Signed. Further signed, titled and marked with the artist's atelier stamp verso. Beautifully presented in a gilt frame. On canvas on stretchers.

Artist Biography

Jean Kevorkian was a French Impressionist painter born in Paris on 7 May 1933, to Armenian parents driven into exile. He began his working life young in a Parisian clothing workshop, where he became a remarkable tailor, dressing a number of political and other figures in the Paris region before devoting himself to painting in his spare time. Self-taught and encouraged by his parents to paint from an early age, Kevorkian worked in the tradition of the French Impressionists, focusing on landscapes, river scenes, and marine subjects rather than figural work. He spent many years in Brittany, in the region of St Malo and Cape Finistère, which developed his interest and talent in marine subjects, and he returned repeatedly to the Île-de-France and the banks of the Seine and Oise in autumn and winter as favourite themes. Paris itself — its quaysides, the Seine, and views toward Notre-Dame — also featured throughout his output. His work was recognised with several French awards, including first prizes in 1978, 1980 and 1981, and a Diplôme d'Honneur in 1980. He exhibited and sold internationally through galleries in Europe and the United States, including Gladwell & Patterson in London and Poulsen Galleries in California, and his paintings continue to appear regularly at auction. Kevorkian died in 2019.
