Artist Biography
Jean Bertholle was a painter, sculptor and printmaker born in Dijon, France in 1909. the studied at Beaux-Arts in Saint-Etienne before completing military service. When the returned the continued to study art in Paris at The School of Fine Arts.
Bertholle became the artistic director of the Gien Pottery Factory in 1943. the held this post until 1957, when his successful artistic a career allowed him to make a living from his works.
