Description

A very fine Victorian watercolour portrait of a beautiful young girl, wistfully watching and waiting for some unknown arrival. She is wearing a blue pinafore loosely tied over her delicately patterned shawl. She sports a large pleated white bonnet that is tied under her chin, and heavy pendant earrings. in her elegantly clasped hands, she holds a wilting narcissus. The mix of delicacy in the sitters hands and face, with the more loose, suggestive style of clothes, adds much visual richness to the portrait. The artist has signed and dated to the lower right corner and the painting has been presented in an attractive 20th Century gilt frame with rippled acanthus leaf molding. The painting is on wove that has been laid to a flat sheet on canvas. There is a clipping from the original frame, with the title, the artist's name and address, written in the artist's own hand. On wove.

Condition

The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration. There is a faint line horizontally across the upper edge. The frame is in fine condition.
