Artist Biography
Jan Rolands (1913-1998) was born in Delft, Holland. Like his father, he became a pharmacist and took lessons in art in his spare time. As he became more interested in painting, he attended the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Amsterdam. Shortly after graduation, he opened a studio and was successful from the beginning. Rolands’ favourite subjects are Dutch Canal scenes, landscapes and charming street scenes of the old world. His style is very impressionistic-loose and expressive, with exquisite use of architectural elements. His work is exhibited throughout Europe and the United States.
