Artist Biography
James Herbert Snell (1861-1935) was a London-born landscape painter, who was an occasional visitor to St. Ives and whose work is represented in the St. Ives Town Collection. Snell studied in Paris and Amsterdam, however he was based in London for most of his career. He was a prolific artist, exhibiting at the RA, RBA, who elected him to their ranks in 1890 and at the ROI, where he was made a member in 1909. He was elected a member of the St. Ives Arts Club in 1909. He painted many views of St. Ives one of which he showed at the Paris Salon in 1924.
