A meticulously detailed street scene by James D. Barnett (active 1855-1892), a British artist based in Crouch End, Hornsey. An inscription on the reverse of the board identifies the location as Sens in the Burgundy region of France. Barnett captures the scene in captivating detail, from the impressive cathedral that towers in the distance to the figures working and conversing in the foreground. Signed to the lower left. Well presented in an ornate gilt frame. On board.

Condition

The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration and surface dirt. Wear around the edges of the board, including some small losses. Marks and scuffs to the frame.
