A 1914 oil on canvas by Irish artist James Arthur Henry Jameson (1855-1930) depicting a mountainous landscape with a female figure walking beside a pool. The dark palette, expressive brushstrokes and subject matter are typical of Jameson's style. The painting has been signed and dated to the lower right corner. It has been inscribed on the reverse 'Winter, Donegal Highland', and includes a Ballymore address. Signed. On canvas on stretchers.Condition
There is scattered craquelure present, but this is only visible on close inspection. Minor surface dirt to top half of picture, typical for a picture of this age. Inspection under UV light reveals some restoration. There is a repair to the top left corner, as in on the reverse of the painting. There is a tear to the bottom border of the canvas where it has been stretched over the frame. This will be hidden when the painting is framed.
