Jacobus Houbracken after G. Kneller - 1742 Engraving The Earl of Orford

Description

A fine and handsome 18th Century engraving, depicting Edward Russell, Earl of Orford within an oval engraved decorated border, with symbols of a naval battle below. The decorated border includes a floral running pattern and acanthus leaf fluting. Inscribed to the lower edge 'In the Collection of Thomas Walker Esq.'. Handsomely presented in a Hogarth frame, with gilt mouldings and black lacquered shaped cove, as shown. Unsigned dated and inscribed. On laid.

Condition

The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration. There are multiple repaired tears to the paper, and some of these have been previously covered with body colour. There are losses to the frame and moulding, mainly small and scattered around the frame.
