Description
A fine and handsome 18th Century engraving, depicting William Shakespeare within an oval engraved decorated border, with symbols of the arts below. The decorated border includes a floral running pattern and acanthus leaf fluting. Inscribed in the plate to the lower edge 'In the Possession of John Nicoll of Southgate Esq.'. Handsomely presented in a Hogarth frame, with gilt mouldings and black lacquered shaped cove, as shown. Unsigned dated and inscribed. On wove.Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration. There are multiple repaired tears to the paper, and some of these have been previously covered with body colour. There are losses to the frame and moulding, mainly small and scattered around the frame.
