A solitary figure makes their way beneath a stand of trees in this striking landscape by Dutch artist Jacob Lucas Jongsma (1893–1926). Jongsma works in an expressive manner that gives the scene a sense of movement, capturing the gentle swaying of the trees and long grass in the wind. The work is signed to the lower right, and is well presented in a gilt frame. On canvas.
Condition
Signs of wear consistent with age, including discolouration and craquelure. Inspection under UV light reveals no apparent restoration. Marks and scuffs to the frame. Loss to the lower left corner, which has been restored. Overall, the artwork is in good condition for its age.
