A charming depiction of the birthplace of Thomas Carlyle, in Ecclefechan, Scotland. The artist has signed to the lower left and the painting has been presented in a pretty wood frame with gilt foliate detailing and a fluted inner window, finished with a gold mount with an inscription of the location at the lower edge. The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration. Some surface dirtying and natural aging to the frame. Small losses to the frame corners.
