Description
An inviting agricultural scene depicts a flock of sheep sheltering within a sunlit barn, their woolly coats rendered with careful attention to detail as they rest upon golden straw. The composition contrasts the dark, atmospheric interior with warmer, luminous tones flooding through a large opening, whilst the flock feeds from wooden troughs. The work is housed in a substantial gilt-effect frame featuring elaborate swept rails and shell and acanthus mouldings. Signed lower right. On canvas on stretchers.Condition
Several previous tears to the canvas have been fully restored. Previous restoration/retouching is noted in the location of these repairs. The frame has minor surface wear, including small chips and corner losses. Overall, the artwork presents in good condition for its age.
