J. Jacquelin after Leon Perrault (1832-1908) - 1923 Oil Sleeping Cupid
Description
A captivating early 20th-century oil painting after Léon Perrault (1832-1908), portraying the sleeping Cupid nestled peacefully on a forest floor. Rendered with delicate attention to detail and soft, luminous brushwork, the composition evokes the romantic sensibility of Perrault’s oeuvre. Inscribed, signed and dated to the lower left. Further inscribed to the frame and stretchers verso. Original gallery label verso. Well presented in a swept gilt frame. On canvas on stretchers.Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age, including some discolouration to the varnish and craquelure to the surface. Small losses to the perimeter, notably to the right side of the artwork. Light abrasions throughout. Minor undulation to the canvas. The frame shows signs of wear consistent with age, including some fine stable cracking and small chips to the edges. Slight separation to the right-hand mitre joints.
