A delightful late-nineteenth-century harvest scene, executed in a playful naïve, folk style. The scene depicts a farmer leading his workhorses as they pull a hay-laden cart, whilst children gather hay into their own smaller cart in imitation. Ducks swimming in a pond in the foreground complete the idyllic rural scene. Signed and dated to the lower right. Well presented in an antique maple frame. On canvas on stretchers.
Condition
The artwork has undergone restorative work, including relining and areas of overpainting. Some discolouration and areas of craquelure. Marks and scuffing to the frame.
