J. A. Hulbert (1900-1979) - Signed Mid 20th Century Pastel, Tibetan Woman

With eyes that tell a thousand stories, this portrait of a Tibetan lady holds an air of worldly wisdom. The subject is decorated in ornate gold jewelry, which is brilliantly captured by J.A Hulbert.

The artwork is signed in the bottom left-hand corner, and well presented in a wood frame with marble effect molding and a beige mount.

On wove.

Artist Biography

Born in 1900, Indian artist J.A. Hulbert is well known for his portraits of local folk from Tibet and India. His work is not often seen, partly because Hulbert signed only with initials and that makes his work hard to identify. Hulbert is known to have exhibited in India and may also have had American connections as much of his work appears there.
