A fine pastoral river scene. To the right side of the composition, cows stand in shallow water while a woman fills a jug on the waterside. A thatched cottage is visible through the trees behind her. The landscape is bathed in a soft light which reflects off the rippling water on which ducks can be seen paddling to the lower-right corner. To the left edge of the water, a man patiently holds a fishing rod in the water from his rowing boat. Presented glazed in a white mount and an ornate gilt frame with pomegranate and acanthus leaf moulding. Signed and dated to the lower-right edge. On wove.
Condition
There are some small abrasions to the surface at the upper corners of the sky. There are some very slight chips and some restoration to the moulding on the frame at the right corners. Overall bright and well-presented.
