An interesting and unusual work in oil by the artist Ivan de Leur, depicting a votive arrangement to the Virgin Mary. Her dress bears the Marian monogram, and other clear iconic references to the Catholic Faith are the lily of the valley (for virginity) and the forget me not blossom (to remember to pray). Blue and white are also the traditional colours of the Virgin. The final iconic reference is the open bible. Signed. On canvas on stretchers.
Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration and surface dirt. Some scuffing and marks around the edges of the canvas, and surface abrasion down the left and right sides. Inspection under UV light reveals no restoration.
