Italian School 18th Century Oil - Christ on the Cross Devotion

Description

This evocative religious painting in oil portrays a bearded figure tenderly cradling a smaller Christ on the Cross. A small halo can be seen emitting from the larger head study, which suggests that this may also be a depiction of Christ. 'Andries' is inscribed verso, otherwise unsigned. On panel.

Condition

There is some craquelure to the surface. Some loss is noted to the edges of the panel. Inspection under UV light reveals some restoration. There are also some surface marks, particularly to the lower left-hand corner. The panel is slightly warped.
