A dynamic still life of red and yellow roses by the well-listed artist Ira Englefield (b.1912). Englefield's heavy impasto style beautifully captures the dramatic forms of each flower head, giving the whole composition a wonderful, life-like quality. The oil has been well presented in a distressed wood frame with carved ornamentation. Signed to the lower left. On canvas on stretchers.

The condition is typical for a picture of this age, including some surface discolouration caused by a fine layer of dirt. Inspection under UV light reveals no restoration.
