Description

A colourful diptych of Indian miniature paintings, both showing scenes of men and women sitting under awnings in a camp. The left picture shows a man taking a drink from a shy woman. The right shows a man resting on the ground as a woman stokes a fire, over which food is cooking. The paintings are presented in a well proportioned oak frame with a gilt inner window, glazing and a gold double mount. On wove.

Condition

The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration. The frame has general dirtying and the gilt inner window has some tarnishing and scuffing.

This beautiful collection of Indian miniatures was probably taken from original manuscripts. The subjects vary from landscape and hunting scenes to ornate court interiors. The delicate and intricate brushwork has been expertly applied to the substrate with touches of ornate gold paint.
