An abundant still life by Ida Calzolari (b. 1936) depicting fish laid across a wooden crate, a half lemon with its peel curling over the ledge, and a glass of red wine catching the light behind. Calzolari draws direct inspiration from Old Master paintings, with careful attention paid to the pale flesh of the fruit and the sheen of the fish scales. The work is well presented in a black and gilt effect frame. Signed to the lower right. On copper.
Condition
A light, even patina of age is present across the surface of the artwork. There is a small surface scratch just above the fish's head (right side). The frame has minor surface wear, including small chips and scuffs.
