Description

With vibrant colour and expressive brushstrokes, Belgian artist Hubert Glansdorff (1877-1963) imbues this still life composition with vitality and life. He uses a combination of Gouache wash and oil with areas of subtle impasto, creating dynamic contrast. Signed and dated to the lower left. Well presented in an ornate gilt frame with a white slip. On canvas on stretchers.

Condition

There is some subtle warping to the canvas, areas of craquelure, and pin holes around the edges, but the condition is good overall. Small losses and scuffs to the frame.

Artist Biography

Hubert Glansdorff (1877-1963) was a Belgian artist, best known for his still life paintings of flowers. He studied at the Brussels Academy of Fine Arts and was a member of the Cercle Artistique et Littéraire de Bruxelles. He exhibited at the Salon des Indépendants in 1904 in Brussels and later at Salle Studio, Salon d’Automne, and Galeries de l’Art belge. His work can be found in both private and public collections, including the Courtray Municipal Museum of Fine Art in Belgium.
