A rich and varied body of work from master etcher and writer Herbert Cutner, this collection spans the first half of the 20th century.
Herbert Cutner was an etcher and writer born in Hull. He studied at the London County Council Bolt Court School of Art and at the Central School of Arts & Crafts, where his tutors included Walter Bayes and Frank Lewis Emanuel. Cutner succeeded in suggesting an enormous amount of detail in each composition, through carefully controlled areas of cross hatching and crisp printed line.
He exhibited mainly at the Society of Graphic Arts and was elected a member there in 1923. The V&A hold examples of his work. He died in London in 1969.
