Herbet Charles Ahier was a commercial artist and illustrator, born in Mile End, London. Details of any art education that Ahier's may have had are not known but by World War I he had become known for producing marine images. After the war in which he served with the Duke of Cambridge's own regiment, he began working as a commercial artist and illustrated for publishers J. M. Dent. On the Electoral Roll for 1939, he is described as 'Retoucher and General Commercial Artist-Photo Engraver' living in Streatham where he eventually died. There is no record of Ahier ever exhibiting his work.
