A very fine oil by the well listed artist Henry Wilkinson RE ARCA (1921-2011) depicting a sporting scene with a male figure, a golden retriever and two blue pheasants in flight.The painting is very well presented in an ornate gilt effect frame with a floral and acanthus running pattern.Title and artist name has been printed on a label affixed to the reverse. With an Alexander Gallery Bristol label affixed to the reverse. Signed. On canvas on stretchers.Condition
There is some scattered craqueluree to the top section sky areas of the painting. There is a minor indent to the left side of the canvas, but this has not affected the paint layer. Overall the paint layer is very stable. Inspection under UV light reveals no restoration. Minor cracks to moulding on frame, but overall the frame is in very condition.

Artist Biography
Engraver and painter and son of artist Henry Robinson Wilkinson. Best known for his paintings and engravings of sporting dogs and during a professional career spanning over 60 years, he applied his creative talent to fields as diverse as silversmithing, gun making, cabinet making and stone masonry. Following early studies at Winchester College of Art where his father was Headmaster, entrance was gained to the painting school at the Royal College of Art. However he soon transferred to the Engraving School where under Robert Austin and Malcolm Osborne he learnt his basic skills. He won a British Institution Scholarship giving him extra time at the college enabling him to gain a travelling scholarship where he studied in Heidelberg, France and Italy. After World War II he was elected Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers. For many years Wilkinson was Head of the Engraving at the City and Guilds of London Art School, a consultant to the Morris Singer Bronze Foundry and a council member of the Royal Society of Painter Etchers.
