Artist Biography
Henry Wilkinson was a British painter and printmaker best known for his depictions of sporting dogs hunting in the countryside. Born in 1921 in the United Kingdom, he studied first at the Winchester College of Art followed by the Royal College of Art in London. Wilkinson first learned engraving while working for the gun maker Hammond’s of Winchester, and continued to hone his craft throughout his career. He later taught at the Royal Society of Painters, Etchers, and Engravers where he met and worked under George Vernon Stokes, a preeminent printmaker who also often portrayed dogs in his work. Wilkinson died in 2011 in Kent, United Kingdom.
