Henry Stacy Marks - Late 19th Century Oil The Reprimand
Description
A young schoolboy is reprimanded in this characterful nineteenth century genre scene. A label affixed to the frame attributes the work to the British artist Henry Stacy Marks (1829-1898). The painting also bears his signature to the lower left, although this appears to have been added at a later date. The work is well presented in a gilt frame with ornate foliate running patterns. On canvas laid to board.Condition
The artwork has undergone restorative work; the canvas has been laid to board, and there are some small tear repairs and areas of overpainting. There are signs of wear consistent with age, including discolouration. There are small losses and scuffs to the frame. Despite the noted imperfections, the condition is good for a picture of this age and the piece presents well.
