Painter, etcher and engraver, educated at was educated at Sheffield Grammar School. His art career began with studies at Cary's Academy and later at the Slade School of Fine Art as one of its first pupils in 1871. He continued his studies particularly of architectural subjects in Italy 1874-77 and his work was reproduced in The Graphic and in other books on architecture. He exhibited in the Royal Academy and RI and at other London Galleries of the day. He left behind many etched views of English towns including Glastonbury, Wells, Salisbury and Exeter.
