Printmaker and mezzotint engraver was born in Dudley and lived in Bushey, Hertfordshire and worked for most of the leading London print publishers and dealers. He first exhibited at the RA in 1889 and continued to show there until his death in 1950. He was a prolific engraver with a broad range of subjects including portraits, genre and landscape. He copied a wide array of artists from Elisabeth Vigée-Lebrun and George Romney to Gustave Courbet and also the work of his friend Hubert von Herkomer. Bridgwater has a painting in the collection of Dudley Museum and Art Gallery, a mezzotint in the NPG and his engraving of the Soul's Awakening after the painting by James Sant is in the collection of the V&A, London.
