A fine original 18th Century stipple engraving by the artist Henry James Richter RA (1772-1857), from 'Travels of Anacharsis the Younger in Greece', first published in 1788 and written by Barthelemy. Illustrating a young Anacharsis facing two tombs on a cliff side, the work is entitled 'Anacharsis at the Straits of Thermopylae'. A similar work can be found in the collection at the British Museum, London.
Handsomely presented in a verre eglomise mount, and 19th Century gilt frame, with lamb's tongue running pattern, plain cove and beading. There is a label to the reverse with the title, and a brass hanging loop to the upper edge of the frame.
On On wove.In good condition overall for a picture of this age. Some light foxing, and surface discolouration. There is some small fragmentation to the eglomise mount, mainly to the upper left. The frame is in very good condition, with some surface wear and scuffing, mainly around the edges and corners.
