This charming Mid 19th Century watercolour depicts workers harvesting hay with scythes in a field before a windmill that looks over the estuary. Painted in fine detail. Signed to the lower right. On paper laid to thin card.Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration. Some light scuffing to the edges of the paper on the left-hand side.

Artist Biography
Little is known about the life of Henry Maplestone. He was inspired by New Zealand subjects and copied many scenes of the country despite never having visited himself. His daughter Florence Elizabeth Maplestone became a painter and was thought to have received training by her father,
