Description

An highly accomplished, Pre-Raphaelite etching. The scene seems to show a group of men completing accounting work as signified by the scales in plate at the bottom showing money to be heavier than a heart pierced by Cupid's arrow. The male figures are counterbalanced by a distinctly Pre-Raphaelite woman in white and a two figures visible through an open door. Henry Macbeth-Raeburn was a highly accomplished artist as this particular piece demonstrates, becoming a member of the Royal Academy at a relatively young age. Signed. On vellum.

Condition

The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration. There is a minor loss to the bottom left corner outside the plate lines as well as slight foxing at the edges. There is undulation of the vellum through the surface.
