A colourful view along a grassy path leading through a garden in full bloom. Presented in a grey mount and a thin wooden frame. Signed to the lower-left corner. On watercolour paper.

Condition

There is some discolouration and slight foxing, mainly visible to the sky in the upper-left quadrant. There are some minor scuffs and scratches to the frame. Overall in good condition.

Artist Biography

Henry John Yeend King RBA VPRI ROI (1855-1924) was a bucolic landscape and genre painter in both oils and watercolours born in London. Yeend King was employed for three years to a company of glass painters before studying under William Bromley (fl.1835-1888), and later in Paris under Leon Bonnat (1833-1922) and Fernand Cormon (1854-1924). King exhibited at the Royal Academy, was an elected member of the Royal Society of British Artists, 1879, the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours, 1887 and Royal Institute of Oil Painters in 1888. He also held the post of Vice-President of the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours in 1901. A typical late-Victorian painter of rustic genre often portraying garden scenes with pretty girls he was a prolific exhibitor and showed at the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists, Baillie Gallery, Dudley Gallery, Dowdeswells, Fine Art Society, Grosvenor Gallery, Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts, Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool, Manchester Academy of Fine Arts, and the Royal Hibernian Academy. Early in his career he served with the Artists' Rifles.
