A fine watercolour painting with body colour details by the British artist Henry John Kinnaird. The scene depicts a Swiss river landscape view with snow covered mountains in the distance. The colour palette and overall balance of the composition highlight the artist's clear proficiency in the subject and medium. Signed to the lower right-hand corner. The location, inscribed to the lower margin, is partially covered by the mount. Well-presented in a washline card mount and in a distressed, gilt effect wooden frame. On watercolour paper.

Condition

The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration and very minor surface marks. Small scuffs to the frame.

Artist Biography

Henry John Kinnaird (1861-1929) was a landscape painter born in London, the son of Francis Henry Kinnaird and the brother of Francis Joseph Kinnaird. As an exhibitor, he showed at the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists, Royal Academy of Arts, Royal Society of British Artists and Royal Institute of Oil Painters. Chelmsford Museum and Art Gallery hold an example of Kinnaird's painting.
