A very fine and impressive landscape by the late 19th Century artist Henry Enfield (1849-1908), depicting a wide and expansive fjord, most likely in Norway. Enfield often depicted Norwegian landscapes, and here he has accurately captured the sense of scale and grandeur of the natural world. The artist has employed finely layered brushwork and subtle reflections, adding an ethereal quality to this bright composition.
Well-presented in a wooden frame with gilt detail, as shown. Signed to the lower left corner.
On canvas on stretchers.In very good condition overall, for a picture of this age. There is only very light surface discolouration, and a small closed tear to the canvas that has been professionally restored, to the left edge. The frame has some surface marks and scuffing.

Henry Enfield (1849-1908) was a London born painter, known for his evocative Norweigian fjord landscapes and other continental lake scenes. After extensive travelling, he died in the town of Nowe Warpno, in northwestern Poland. His work has previously sold at the Dorotheum in Vienna, Austria, and he is collected worldwide.
