Artist Biography

Henry E. Foster (1921-2010) was born in West Kirby near Liverpool on 16th June 1921. His parents were both musical, and Henry began to paint at the age of eight. Outstanding in both art and mathematics, he studied engineering drawing at Royal Enfield, and went on to attend the Central Technical College, Birmingham in 1942, where he excelled.

Gaining a local reputation as an artist, he often appeared with his paintings in the Works Magazine. He rarely parted with his own works, often reworking them, except in cases of commisions. Holding strong views on many painters, he didn't like the Pre-Raphaelites. A real animal lover, his work includes country scenes, churches, and depictions of the area around Hopwood, Worcestershire.

Working in a variety of media, sketching in charcoal, he often used a combined approach, painting many pictures several times. At the age of 55, he took early retirement to devote his life to painting.
