Artist Biography
Born in London the son of a merchant banker, Henry Charles Fox (1855-1925) was a painter of picturesque views, rustic scenes and landscapes. He was a versatile artist and painted in both oils and watercolours.
Fox was a prolific painter and many of the titles of the pictures he exhibited were accompanied by lines of verse. He tried to capture the bucolic dream of the perfect English countryside as it was during Victorian times with his delicate watercolour landscapes. His paintings were many and provide us with a beautiful record of life as it was at the turn of the century. He exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1880-1913, Royal Scottish Academy, RI, Royal Institute of Oil Painters, and the Royal Society of British Artists, of which he became a member in 1890. He died in Horsham, Sussex having lived most of his life in Kingston-upon-Thames.
