Henk Welthers - Framed Early 20th Century Oil Grazing near Windmills

Description

A tranquil pastoral scene depicts cattle grazing peacefully beside a waterway in a characteristically Dutch landscape, with traditional windmills rising prominently in the misty background. The artist employs a warm, earthy palette and loose brushwork to capture the atmospheric quality of the Low Countries. Well presented in an ornate gilt-effect frame with shell and acanthus ornamentation at the corners. Signed lower right. On canvas.

Condition

Light surface discolouration throughout, including yellowing to the varnish layer. A tear in the canvas has been previously restored. Inspection under UV light reveals minor overpainting in the same area. The frame has light surface wear and stable cracking at the corner ornaments. The artwork is in good condition for its age.
