Description

A wonderful atmospheric portrait study of an old man with a white bushy beard and a remarkably characterful face and expression - somewhat contemplative yet resigned. Completed in an almost sketch-like manner with thin areas of paint applied to unprimed board. The old wooden frame adds to the charm and appeal of the artwork as a whole. Signed to the lower edge, signed and dated to the reverse, and with an artist's stamp to the reverse. On board.

Condition

Maintains a desirable character and patina. Minor surface marks and abrasions to the board. A light, even patina of age is present across the surface of the artwork. The frame has minor surface wear, including small chips, scuffs, indentations and stable cracking, along with a larger split to the wood at the upper right. The artwork is in good condition for its age.
