A fine oil painting by the well-listed British artist Harry John Pearson. The scene depicts a Dutch interior with a female figure seated by a fireplace, sewing a piece of fabric. This charming, well-balanced composition highlights the artist's proficiency in the subject and medium. There is a landscape oil study on the reverse. Signed to the lower right-hand corner. The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration, small surface marks and scratches, and some scuffs to the edges of the board. Inspection under UV light reveals no restoration.

Artist Biography
Harry John Pearson (1872-1933) was primarily a portrait and genre painter, specialising in pictures of children. He also painted genre scenes and more occasionally, landscapes and seascapes. He moved to Holland before World War I and joined an artist colony. He returned to London and started to work as a commercial artist, working for companies such as Doulton, Birds, Colmans and others. His work also appeared in Women's Pictorial, the Illustrated London News, Homes and Gardens, and Colour Magazine often gaining front cover exposure.
He exhibited regularly at the principal London venues. These included the Royal Society of British Artists, of which he became a member in 1915, exhibiting every year up until 1932, and at the Royal Academy where he exhibited from 1916-27 and at Dudley Gallery, Fine Art Society, Goupil Gallery, ISSPG, Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool, Royal Society of Portrait Painters, Royal Academy, Royal Institute of Oil Painters. He was also President of the Langham Sketch Club. Many of his exhibited works portrayed children attired in fancy dress. Works by Pearson are held in local and national public collections in the UK, including the National Museum of Wales and the little-known Wycombe Museum.
